If you look to the right, you’ll see that Senator Clinton has abandoned us. No longer does she wish to engage us in conversation. Even though she has paid for advertising in right wing blogistan for a week, according to this William Beutler report, she has responded to the indignation of the left wing blogosphere and prematurely removed her invitation to converse from HH.com and Powerline and Captain Quarters. We get to keep the money, though! (A certain arch-rightwing snark-filled blogger who frequently comments here is apparently flying beneath the HRC juggernaut’s radar as her ads still festoon his site. So as not to ruin his little operation, I will refrain from publicly identifying him at this time.)

The Beutler piece documents the disgust that Hilary’s ad buy at HH.com and other conservative sites provoked amongst the Netroots. Matt Stoller lamented,

“Why do people like HRC, no matter how often it becomes clear that wingnuts hate us, seek approval from wingnuts?”

Some liberal person named Taylor Marsh, who apparently operates a poorly-read blog, plaintively whined:

“It’s not like her team doesn’t know I exist. I find it a little annoying that Clinton’s team thinks that people like me don’t merit advertisement, simply because our numbers don’t reach the one-hundred thousand mark.”

PERTAINING TO THIS ENTIRE PETTY MATTER, I feel it necessary to correct a couple of things. Beutler, pointing to this post of mine, wrote that I “took exception” to Hilary advertising on our site. Far from it. If Hilary wants to waste her money maintaining our Townhall overlords in the style that they’ve become accustomed to, I have no problem with that. My major point was that the expenditure was a stupid one, and one that betrayed a willingness to profligately waste scarce resources. If Hilary is going to run such a loose ship that she allows such silly expenditures at this early stage, it’s perhaps predictive that her campaign will be Howard Dean Redux, presumably minus the scream.

Beutler also says that I disingenuously overlooked the presence of blog guru Peter Daou on the HRC juggernaut. Quite the contrary; I didn’t mention Daou’s name because I was trying to be nice. Seriously. Since I was positing that the ad-buy was either stupid and/or a subtle kind of con on the Clinton campaign and I had no idea if Daou was involved with it, I figured mentioning his name or any names would have been grossly unfair.

Of more importance is Matt Stoller’s erroneous assertion that “the wingnuts hate us.” While I certainly don’t have the authority to speak on behalf of all wingnuts, I think Matt would find more comity amongst the wingnuts if he got to know a few of us. Just speaking for myself, I certainly don’t hate the Netroots. Quite the contrary, I think of them collectively as an adorable little house pet, something like a Yorkie. Yes they bark too much and pee on the virtual rugs and tear up some virtual furniture, but “hate” isn’t close to being the right word.

Seriously.
