Al Gore's try at getting the feeling back went over worse than Shrek 3. Tim Blair provides some details, as does Mark Steyn at The Corner, Glenn Reynolds, and Michelle Malkin. Is anyone surprised?

I appeared on Fox News opposite Willie Brown yesterday, and the former San Francisco mayor was so dismissive of Al Gore as to almost end the segment before it began --I am not the guy to try and talk up Al as a force in American politics even if the producers had been counting on a little debate. But Willie is one of the smartest pols of the last 40 years, and he's not going to get caught on tape talking up Al Gore's strengths as a candidate. Who can, when you can't get the debates of 2000 or his endorsement of Dean out of your mind or his screaming "He betrayed us!" at the MoveOn.org love-in? The most overrated politician of the last few decades, whose image of himself is powered by W's failure to disclose a DUI and the networks' early in the campaign and the wrongful call of Florida for the blue team early on election night 2000, appears unlikely to ever go away. Gore's even an accidental victim, and his misfortune has carried hm into Laurie David's arms and further and further into a strange world of tunnel vision activists firmly refusing to see the danger in the world, asking instead how many lightbulbs have to be changed before jihadism is out of energy?

Al Gore, the slapstick Odysseus, trying to get back to significance and moving further and further away. Run, Al, run. The country needs you to need yourself some more. Bring along Jimmy Carter, your party's other ball-and-chain. The former gave us the bitter politics of resentment and paranoia, the latter Khomeni's Iran. They ought to have a monument together --perhaps at Yasgur's farm.
