As I’ve often said in the past, making a big deal out of any individual poll at this point in the game is utter foolishness. Each individual poll is just a snapshot, and the photographers aren’t always reliable. What you should be paying attention to is the broad trend rather than the details of a particular poll. (Except for Scott Rasmussen’s polls, which are uncannily accurate.)
Still, that doesn’t stop some people, especially blogging people, from shouting the results of a particular poll whose numbers favor their biases from their virtual rooftops. We saw this yesterday a few bloggers who aren’t as friendly to Mitt Romney’s campaign as Hugh and I are made a big deal out of one South Carolina poll that showed Romney pulling only 8%.
Nevertheless, I can see the appeal in this vice and no one has ever said that I don’t have a healthy appetite for foolishness. (For proof, please see the post immediately below this one.) So, allow me a brief moment to crow about the latest Zogby poll out of Iowa that shows Romney jumping from a distant third place into the leader’s position.
Okay, moment over. After all, it is Zogby. Still, the general trend for Romney’s numbers is decidedly upwards. No other candidate in either party can say that.
