I know you don’t want to hear me talk about Mitt Romney, so you’re just going to have to take my word for it that this post really isn’t about him. I swear it on the souls of my terriers. Now that I’ve convinced you of my benign intentions, go over and click on Mitt Romney.com. As Ben Stiller said as Starsky, “Do it.”

Okay, you’re back. I’m sure most of you never left, so I’ll describe what the dutiful ones have already seen. When you click on MittRomney.com, a little talking version of Mitt pops up, gives you the skinny on the site and asks for some jingle. It’s pretty cool, a little odd, and like nothing else I’ve ever seen a politician do. Allah says of it:

Reminds me of the Hall of Presidents at Disney World: impressively realistic, yet just unrealistic enough to trigger the instinctive revulsion towards all things “unnatural.” And yet, undeniably cool. Someday when the Hot Air empire has amassed a Romneyesque fortune, we’ll do all our posts this way. You’re welcome, ladies.

I shall call him “Mini-Mitt.”

Here’s what I think is neat about it, speaking as a guy who spends his days on the computer. If you’ve ever watched a DVD on your computer or even a YouTube clip, you know your computer is capable of presenting things in three dimensions. And yet the vast majority of things designed for computers have a flat two-dimensional appearance. Your desktop could have three dimensions and theoretically be a lot more useful.

But who cares about desktops? I’m thinking websites. Virtually every website and blog (like this one) has settled for a two dimensional appearance. None of us have even tried to think of how we could use the third dimension that our machines (and your machines) can so easily hack.

That’s why Allah and I both thought the Mini-Mitt thing was pretty righteous. Yeah, it was a little weird and a little short of artistic perfection, but it was also very cool. It was like nothing we’ve ever seen.

And, speaking on behalf of the blogosphere, why can’t we do that? Is a Romneyesque fortune really a prerequisite?
