My first set of comments and links related to UCI's disgraceful treatment of Erwin Chemerinsky is below.  One more thought occurred to me and should be occurring to the University of California's Board of Regents this evening.

One of the crucial tasks of a new law school's dean is to pilot the school through ABA and AALS accreditation, a painful and very political process.  Erwin is rightly esteemed for his scholarship by many senior figures in both processes, and they will not forget the shabby treatment given him, or the message his dismissal sends.  Both bodies prize the independence of the scholars and teachers charged with preparing law students to be advocates for their clients, especially their unpopular clients.  I fully expect that both bodies will make UCI pay a very high price for this bizarre conduct, and they will be right to question who is really running the law school when some hidden hand reaches out and forces the revocation of an offer to as distinguished a professor as Erwin.

What would have been a slam dunk with both organizations just became a very problematic proposition --and the Regents should weigh that when considering an intervention to restore the offer to Erwin.
