Here's a good summary of the arguments behind the push to list the polar bear as threatened  --climate change models that predict drastic loss of Arctic sea ice changes over the next 100 years.

Here's a very funny attack on critics of the polar bear listing, which makes even opponents of the listing laugh: "Polar bears will destroy the American way of life."

At a minimum, the Secretary of the Interior should reopen the comment period on the proposed listing to allow data from this year's regeneration of sea ice (some experts dispute the significance of the new ice) to be in the record and for individuals and industries newly aware of the vast implications of the listing to get their opinions into the record.
