I wrote yesterday about the inbreeding at the big four MSM papers that has left them without leadership or much hope as the new media age accelerates.
Now comes fresh confirmation of the not-so-slow-collapse of the leaderless papers:
Investors were more concerned about a 1.4% decline in revenue, to $1.3 billion, because analysts had projected a slight increase. The average paid daily circulation at Tribune's 11 metropolitan papers, which include the Chicago Tribune and New York's Newsday, fell 5% to 2.9 million copies.

Individually paid circulation (home delivery plus single copy) for Tribune’s 11 metro newspapers averaged 2.7 million copies daily (Mon-Fri), down about 2 percent from the same reporting period in 2005, and 4.1 million copies Sunday, down about 2.5 percent from the same reporting period in 2005.

Total net paid circulation averaged 2.9 million copies daily (Mon-Fri) in the second quarter, down 5 percent from the prior year, and 4.2 million copies Sunday, representing a decline of 4 percent from the prior year as the Company continued to reduce "other paid" circulation.
I am betting the
Los Angeles Times' led the drop.
For an example why, read this morning's suggestion that Syria and Iran may not be to blame for Hezbollah's actions.For the agenda-"journalists" at the
Times, if the Bush Adminsitration is blaming Syria and Iran, Syria and Iran must be blameless.
Too bad the "reporters" didn't bother to read this, or
this, or
this, or any of a dozen other serious analyses of Hezbollah. Instead the Times' instinctive reaction was to call doubt upon the connection between the attacks on Israel and the "Axis of Evil," middle eastern branch.
The
Times' tentative absolution of Syria and Iran was front page, though below the fold. The headline, in bold and large letters:
"Israel Blocks Lebanese Coast."
The big header should have read: "Hezbollah Missiles Strike Haifa." But that would not serve the agenda.
