That’s an interesting question about whether the Politico is skewing left. I thought I was noticing the same thing, but my brain has admittedly been addled by spending two straight weeks in Boston.

Here’s the problem for the Politico, a site I’ve come to adore since it debuted. They’re in it to make money. Unlike most web news portals, they well compensate their content-providers (a.k.a. writers). That means they’ve got overhead issues that the other portals don’t.

To date, there has been no evidence that a moderate site can draw eyeballs. All of the popular political websites and blogs are either extremely conservative or extremely liberal. Only Mickey Kaus and Andrew Sullivan exist as arguable exceptions, and Andrew certainly isn’t exactly the picture of moderation.

The Huffington Post, before it morphed into the hideous monstrosity that currently so lamely bestrides the blogosphere, intended to be fair and balanced. I seem to recall David Frum and his wife used to contribute there. No more. There’s seemingly an internet law of gravity that pulls websites to one extreme or the other.

I love the Politico. Listen to me guys – don’t ever change. Or if you do, at least do so to the right in which case I’ll probably love you even more.
