Don’t look now, but according to the latest Quinnipiac Poll, Joe Lieberman has a 53-41 lead over Ned Lamont. Perhaps more dispiriting for the nutroots will be the fact that Lieberman has a 55-40 approval rating amongst Nutmeggers, putting him in something of a comfort zone. The Quinnipiac polling director detects the obvious: “Ned Lamont's Democratic primary win was based on a very small percentage of voters statewide. He must expand beyond this base if he is going to beat Lieberman.”
Here’s the amazing part: Ned Lamont, the empty suit who has been desperately trying to present himself as a blank slate so the election will be nothing more than a referendum on Lieberman, has an approval/disapproval rating of 25% approve, 30% disapprove. Perhaps for the putative wise men who run the Democratic Party, this can serve as a teachable moment: Closely associating yourself with raging bloggers, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson does not a winning formula make.
A pity Markos is on vacation – I would really like to know why this poll is great news for the Nutroots. I’ll be checking the MyDD to see if the kids there are up to the challenge of putting an adequate amount of lipstick on their brand new pig of a poll.
