The Pelosi-Murtha Democrats (or San Fran Nan as one e-mailer calls the would-be Speaker) want the U.S. out of Iraq and want us to concentrate on Afghanistan.

In July of 2005, an al Qaeda terrorist, Mahmoud Ahmed Mohammed Al-Rashid, escaped from a military prison in central Afghanistan.

His death in Iraq was confirmed by CentCom today:

BAGHDAD, – Ground forces have verified the death of Mahmoud Ahmed Mohammed Al-Rashid, also known as Umar Faruq, through DNA testing.

During a raid, Sept 25 in Basrah, ground forces killed Mahmoud Ahmed Mohammed Al-Rashid Faruq. As forces maneuvered to the objective, they received small-arms fire from suspected terrorists. Forces killed an individual wielding a firearm as they reached the objective. After taking photographs and gathering DNA evidence from the individual, ground forces left the suspected terrorist remains at the site. It was later determined through DNA gathered the individual killed was Umar Faruq.

Over and over again the undeniable truth of it being all one war is driven home, and nowhere more carefully than in Lawrence Wright's The Looming Tower

Over and over again Democrats ignore this central fact, and in doing so, endanger the success of the American military in that one war.

When an al Qaeda terrorist first captured in Afghanistan escapes and takes up quarters and arms in Iraq, it becomes impossible even for Democrats to deny that retreat in Iraq is retreat from al Qaeda.

If the Pelosi-Murtha Democrats had had their way, U.S. forces would have already "redeployed over the horizon," and Umar Farouq would still be alive and plotting more terror.

Any vote for any Democrat is a vote against victory and a vote for vulnerability.
